With warmer days upon us the nights are still cold.  Our tip is to dress your babies and children in enough clothing for the coldest part of the night at bedtime.  This might mean they are slightly overdressed at bedtime and an open window or fan might be necessary until the temperature begins to drop as the evening progresses.
most babies and toddlers are active sleepers and usually dont stay under blankets.  We love sleeping bags and we have a great range available in our online shop.  Check out our online specials!

Changes to Car Restraints Legislation
Do you know about the new changes to car restraints legislation for children? These laws changed on the 1st of October and now make it illegal for you to have a child under 7 years travelling in the front seat of your car.
Also, children 4-7 years must be in an approved forward-facing child restraint or approved booster seat.  Children aged 4-7 years will only be allowed to sit in the front seat if the rear row or rows of seats are all occupied by children under 7 years and they must be in the correct restraint.
Children from birth to 6 months must still remain in a rear-facing restraint, while children from 6 months up to 4 years must be in a rearward or forward-facing restraint with inbuilt harness.
Failure to comply will result in a $500 fine and the loss of four demerit points.

"Nature Play" for parents
Nature Play is a conference for parents to enable you to learn about cheap simple practical ways to improve the future for your children.
On November 26 this special morning seminar for parents will feature two of the key organisers of the Nature Play movement who will talk about how you and your family can get involved in the movement.  As well, ABC Gardening Australia's celebrity gardener Josh Byrne will show you how to set up a vegetable garden with your kids and Playgroup WA will talk about great outdoor activities for children 0-5 years.
Background of Nature Play Movement:
In April this year an American writer, Richard Louv, came to Perth.  He argued that we are conducting an unprecedented experiment on our kids.  This current generation - your children - is the generation that stays inside more than any other in history. 
The results of this giant experiment are only now becoming clear.  They include:

• Loss of decision making ability
• Increased levels of depression
• Obesity
• Bad eyesite

One of the results of Richard's visit was the establishment by the department of Sport and Recreation of Nature Play WA.  This organistion will inform parents of the importance of getting your kids outside, unstructured play, and reconnecting with nature.  Nature Play WA will also work to provie prac tical ideas on how you can achieve this.
